Mission

The Rainbow Project, is a organization who reaches out to the families of children that have cancer. The Rainbow Project in memory of a special young my daughter Scarlett Funk. For 14 years Scarlett fought a battle that no one should ever have to face. I am saddened to say that on February 3, 2011 Scarlett became the angel this project is inspired by. The Rainbow Project reaches out to these families and children to do whatever it takes to make their lives a little easier. Many people do not realize these children have to travel 50 miles or more to receive treatment because there is no cancer treatment center for children in the Fredericksburg area. These treatments and appointments can be very long, drawn out and not so close to home. The program is designed to help with anything from meals, gas cards, grocery cards, running errands, providing things for siblings (games, coloring books, movies, puzzles, etc.) or anything else that could be of help. Our program is in the process of growing and hope to offer many other services in the near future with the long term goal of having a Children's Cancer Treatment Center in the Fredericksburg area. We are excited to say that Child Life at Massey Children Cancer Treatment Center at MCV/VCU have added us as a community resource for the Fredericksburg area. They also include our information in the diagnostic packages that are giving to the families. The Rainbow Project helps these families with events planned. It is our hope to have at least 6 events in a year, through benefit dances to musical performances at area churches.
